I was born and raised in Kyoto, a city that has always been close to my heart.

As someone who grew up surrounded by Kyoto’s traditions, culture, and everyday life, I understand the value of having a personal connection to this city.

But through my experience working with tour guides from different backgrounds, I have come to appreciate something equally important: there is more than one way to understand and share the beauty of Kyoto.

At Wo.oW Travel, our team includes both Japanese guides and guides who have come to Japan from other countries.

Each brings something different to the experience.

Our Japanese guides may share perspectives shaped by growing up in Japan, their familiarity with local customs, and their personal experiences of Japanese culture.

Our international guides bring their own valuable perspectives. Having experienced Japan through the eyes of someone arriving from another culture, they may notice things that Japanese people sometimes take for granted.
They can also understand many of the questions, surprises, and discoveries that international visitors experience during their travels.

Neither perspective is better than the other.
They simply offer different ways of connecting with Kyoto.

One of the most rewarding parts of my work is watching our guides grow.

I see the time they spend learning, preparing, asking questions, and deepening their understanding of Kyoto.

I know how much effort goes into becoming a knowledgeable and engaging guide, regardless of where someone was born.

And I deeply appreciate that dedication.

For me, what makes a wonderful guide is not nationality. It is curiosity, knowledge, kindness, professionalism, and a genuine desire to make every guest feel welcome.

Above all, it is the passion to share Kyoto in a way that makes visitors feel connected to the city.
